The Transformational Giving Playbook

As a starting point, it's important to understand that The Transformational Giving Playbook^TM is not designed for every nonprofit.  It is specifically designed for nonprofits that: 

1. Have annual revenues of $10M and up; 
2. Are seeking transformational gifts in the six or seven-figure range from high-net worth individuals (inclusive of couples and families), corporations, and foundations;
3. And have a prospect research function, whether in-house or outsourced.   

It works particularly well for nonprofits that are federated (e.g., a national or international nonprofit with a headquarters in one location and multiple chapters, affiliates, sites, state offices, regional offices, etc. in other locations). 

While The Transformational Giving Playbook^TM is not designed for small nonprofits -- especially those run by volunteers or those with only one or two fundraisers -- the principles, processes, and methods of The Transformational Giving Playbook^TM can provide value to all nonprofit organizations, regardless of size.

Although definitions of a transformational gift may vary, we define transformational gifts as six and seven-figure donations given by an individual, corporation, or foundation.

Major giving programs at large nonprofits typically start at five-figure gifts and go up from there.  A transformational giving program focuses on raising exponentially more money through six and seven or even eight-figure gifts from high net-worth individuals, corporations, and foundations.

Although it's impossible to guarantee results, what we can say is that every organization who has wholeheartedly implemented the strategies in The Transformational Giving Playbook^TM, has increased their revenue which has significantly increased their ability to successfully carry out their mission.

If you choose to implement The Transformational Giving Playbook^TM on your own, you'll want to take everything we give you in The Playbook - the framework, the templates, the guidelines, the examples, the checklists, and the blueprints - put a team together, share your vision for what's possible for your mission and your organization, and create an implementation plan.   

Our experience is that a typical Transformational Giving Playbook^TM implementation project takes nine to twelve months.  Organizational culture, team dynamics, resource availability, fundraiser experience, and time needed by staff to absorb the change, are all factors that impact the timing.   

We recommend the project be sponsored by the Chief Development Officer. 

A Steering Committee should also be established that includes the Chief Development Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and possibly the Board's Chair of the Development Committee. 

Next, a Core Project Team of representative staff from each high-touch fundraising program - across headquarters and the chapters/sites/regional offices - should be assembled to customize the Transformational Giving PlaybookTM to your organization. 

Lastly, you'll want to have a Project Manager/Coordinator to arrange for the active participation of staff and consolidate feedback on each component of your Playbook.

At the same time we work with you on developing the organizational infrastructure to support a successful transformational giving program, we'll also work with you on developing the personal infrastructure - through coaching, mentorship, and skills training - to equip your team members with the competence and confidence to fundraise at a transformational level. 

Out of this in-depth process, your organization will have the foundation for a proven transformational giving program.
